How to Choose the Right Neon Bar Sign Size and Colour
Choosing a neon bar sign is part design, part measurement. The good news is that a few simple rules will keep you from ending up with a sign that feels too small, too loud or too dim for its space.
Start with the wall
Measure the width and height of the wall or the space above the back bar. As a guide, a sign that fills half to two-thirds of the available width looks deliberate. Think about viewing distance
Letters need to read from where your guests sit or stand. As a rough rule, every inch of letter height reads comfortably from about ten feet. A sign that will be seen from across a large room or from the street needs taller letters than one seen from a bar stool.
Pick a colour that suits the room
- Warm white and amber feel classic and welcoming, ideal for pubs, whisky bars and restaurants.
- Pink and violet look stylish and modern, especially in cocktail bars.
- Cyan and ice blue read as cool and contemporary and pair well with dark interiors.
- Red has the highest impact and is the traditional choice for open signs.
- Green and lime are playful and suit tiki, craft and gaming venues.
Match the lettering to the venue
Script lettering is warm and personal. Block and marquee lettering reads as pub, diner or speakeasy. Rounded sans-serif lettering feels friendly and modern and is easy to read at a distance. Ask us to show two or three options in the mockup so you can compare.
Plan the power and mounting
Decide where the sign will plug in and how it will be mounted. Signs can be hung on chains, mounted flush to a wall or fitted to a frame. We will suggest the best option for your wall type.
